Pictures Of Tsunami

On the day after Christmas, the world was shocked by one of the worst natural disasters in recorded human history. This disaster was a tsunami that hit the coastal nations of Asia following a massive undersea earthquake in the Indian Ocean that measured over 9.0 on the Richter scale. This earthquake was also the longest-lasting quake to be recorded by technology.

The earthquake displaced an enormous quantity of ocean water and created great waves as the sea floor fell up and down. These waves, while starting out relatively small on the surface just above the epicenter of the quake, quickly increased in size, getting larger the closer they came to shore. By the time the waves reached land, they had formed one giant wave measuring over 80 feet in height. This giant wave crashed with unimaginable force onto the beaches.
